Assistant / Driver (Contract)
A ride to an appointment in Manhattan, an office run in Brooklyn, paperwork sorted before the afternoon. Two days a week, you make someone’s week work.
Five Borough Veterans is hiring an Assistant / Driver to support one of our clients — a military-connected family member who needs help with transportation, errands, and light administrative work. This is a steady, personal role: the same two days each week, the same person, a routine you build together.
A vehicle is provided. Gas, tolls, and maintenance are covered by the client, and so are meals on the days you work — lunch and dinner both. You bring the license, the patience, and the New York driving instincts.
This is a paid contract engagement, not a staff position — an independent contractor arrangement with a set weekly schedule, invoiced twice a month.
What You’ll Do
- Drive the client to appointments, meetings, and personal commitments across Manhattan and Brooklyn.
- Plan the day’s routes, parking, and timing so nothing runs late.
- Run errands — groceries, pharmacy, dry cleaning, pickups and drop-offs.
- Handle light administrative work: sorting mail and paperwork, scheduling, phone calls, keeping a simple calendar.
- Help carry and load packages, groceries, and equipment.
- Keep the provided vehicle clean, fueled, and ready to go each work day.
What You Bring
- A valid driver’s license and a clean record for the last three years.
- Real confidence driving and parking in Manhattan and Brooklyn traffic — downtown at rush hour included.
- Availability every Wednesday and Friday, plus the occasional evening with notice.
- Comfort with basic admin tasks — email, phone, calendars, keeping paperwork in order.
- Able to lift and carry roughly 40 pounds.
- Discretion and reliability. This is personal, one-on-one work in someone’s daily life.
- A military connection — U.S military reservist/veteran status
Contract Terms
$40 per hour on a 1099 independent contractor basis — Wednesdays and Fridays, roughly 16 hours a week. The client provides the vehicle and covers gas, tolls, and maintenance, plus lunch and dinner on work days. Nothing comes out of your pocket. Occasional extra days are offered first to you at the same rate. Initial engagement runs six months and renews by mutual agreement.
